House Fire In Oakton

January 4, 2008

Shortly after 6 a.m., as the B-Team was making relief, Communications put units on the street for the "House Fire" at Jermantown and Oakton Rd. in Co. 34's first due.  This brought Engine 403 (Clark), Rescue Engine 433 (Jeckell), Truck 403 (Kezele), Battalion 443 (Ciarrocca/Vita), and Medic 433 (Suslowitz) from "The City."  Initial supplements indicated this was going to be a working fire, as Communications received numerous reports, however none were able to confirm an exact address.  As units were checking the area, Engine 434 advised it was going to be on Marseilles Lane off of Oakton Rd.  Rescue Engine 433 arrived and assumed first due engine company responsibilities, laying out from Oakton and Marseilles advising the next arriving engine to complete the split to the hydrant. Rescue Engine 433 and Truck 403 went on the scene with a vacant 2 Story SFD with a well progressed fire throughout.  The Rescue Engine immediately deployed the R.A.M portable monitor, as operations were deemed to be defensive. Battalion 443 arrived and established "Marseilles Command."  The remainder of the Box arrived within a minute and completed their respective duties.  Once a water supply was established, Rescue Engine 433 and Engine 403's R.A.M devices were placed in service and made quick work of the fire.  With the fire knocked, Command scaled the assignment back to RE433, E434, E440, T403, and TL440.  Shortly thereafter the Rescue Engine remained on the scene to assist the investigators.  All units worked well together on this extremely cold morning.
