STAFFORD COUNTY DEPUTY & FIREFIGHTER JASON MOONEY

October 19, 2007

It is with great sorrow that I notify you of the passing of Deputy Sheriff Jason Mooney who also served as a Firefighter with the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department, Stafford Volunteer Fire Company 2.

Jason died in the line of duty while serving as a Deputy Sheriff as he was responding with Stafford County Engine 9 to an injury accident last evening on I-95.  Jason is the fiancé’ of Firefighter Catherine Harris (Engine 9).

Please keep Catherine, Sheriff Jett and the men and women of the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, Chief John McDonald and the members or Stafford Company 2, and Jason's family in your thoughts & prayers.

In the fire service, signals by bells have been tradition for years to transmit messages for firefighters. The signal "box 5-5-5" signifies that a firefighter is not returning home from an alarm. The "box 5-5-5" alarm was sounded in honor of Deputy Mooney at 0900 hours on Saturday October 20, 2007.
