On February 16th, RE433 (Jeckell), FE403 (Alexander), T403 (Trottman) were dispatched to West Ananndale for an appliance fire at a church pre-school. RE433 was first to arrive on scene and found heavy black smoke pushing from the Delta side as well as fire from side Charlie. The crew from RE433 deployed an 1 3/4 handline through a set of double doors on side Delta and made a stong push to the fire. FE403's officer established command until BC443 (Munday) arrived. M403 (Evans) evacuated 19 children and 6 adults to a neighboring house owned by the church. Just as RE433 and T403 located the fire command advised crews to evacuate the structure due to a roof collapse near side Charlie where the crews were operating.
All crews made it out safely and a 2nd alarm was struck for additional man-power. T403 raised the stick as well as TL408 and RE433 deployed the RAM for large amounts of water to extinguish the fire. Two civilians were evaluated my M403 (Evans) and subsequently treated and transported to Fairfax Hospital for smoke inhalation.
Units operated on scene for a total of 4 hours. Another job well done by B-Shift.
