Immediately following an early morning EMS run E403 (Speakes, Trottman, Rothlein, Hilt) was dispatched as the 3rd engine on the second alarm of a fatal house fire in Springfield. While enroute command had all units evacuate due to a significant floor collapse. Upon arrival E403 was assigned side Alpha exterior attack. They put out fire and hooked ceilings in two bedrooms and the living room. They also made an attempt at attacking the attack fire gable opening but were chased off the ladder by fire.
