During his time with the City of Fairfax, he has served in numerous positions within the Fire Department accomplishing things that go far beyond what any web story could possibly describe. However, several years ago Richard had a vision of the City Fire Department having its' own training center. Without any or at best a minimal amount of funding he built a premiere training center on a small piece of property in the City. Captain Miller has had an ever-lasting impact on our Department and words can not describe how much he is appreciated and will be missed. With all that said, we are very fortunate as he is not going all that far...he has agreed to join the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department and serve as their Training Captain. We look forward to working with him in his new position. His first luncheon was yesterday, his City luncheon is February 15th at Station 3, and his retirement party is February 11th at Station 3. Local 2702 would like to congratulate and wish Captain Miller a safe and happy retirement. Thank you again for everything! Thu, 02 Feb 2012 11:39:28 GMT http://www.fairfaxfire.org/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=280 Councilman Silverthorne Announces His Intentions for Mayor http://www.fairfaxfire.org/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=277 Dear Fairfax Friends and Neighbors, After much thought and consideration, I have decided that I will enter the race for mayor of the City of Fairfax this spring. After serving on your city council for nearly two decades, I believe I am uniquely qualified and prepared to lead our City. I seek to become our City's next mayor because I want to provide the type of effective leadership we need if we hope to keep our city the best place to live, work and raise a family. I remain optimistic about Fairfax's future, and I am also unwilling to leave it to chance. As a Fairfax native, my commitment to our community is unwavering. Thankfully, I've had the opportunity to give something back and it's a responsibility I take very seriously. Our community needs leaders who continue to put quality of life first – ensuring safe neighborhoods, superior schools, outstanding community and recreational programs and a healthy environment – all while maintaining a low tax rate. Your mayor has to know and understand the community. Whether you've lived here your whole life, or whether you have chosen to make the City of Fairfax your home, we must not forget the virtues of what made our City great: our people, common sense leadership and our proud traditions. In the coming months, I will be campaigning throughout the City and will articulate my past record of accomplishment on the city council and my vision for the future. I hope you will assist me in this effort by supporting my candidacy for mayor on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Sincerely, Scott Silverthorne Candidate for Mayor Fri, 13 Jan 2012 15:40:53 GMT http://www.fairfaxfire.org/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=277 Rescue Engine Extricates One at Fairfax Circle http://www.fairfaxfire.org/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=279 After completing an extrication on I495 earlier in the day RE433 along with M433 and units from Fairfax County were dispatched to 9605 Fairfax Boulevard near Fairfax Circle around 2330 for a report of a vehicle over turned with a subject possibly trapped. The members of RE433 went to work stabilizing the vehicle while the crew of M433 provided initial patient care. After completing the vehicle stabilization process the Rescue Engine crew quickly removed the roof of the pick up truck and assisted M433 with immobilization and removal of the patient. M430 was also dispatched to the scene for a second patient. Both patients were transported to Fairfax Hosptial with minor injuries. All other units picked up and returned to service. It benefits the DC Firefighters Burn Foundation, who assists the MedSTAR Burn Center, where all DC Area firefighters would go when we get burned on the job! The theme of "Nearly Naked" comes from the concept of being comfortable in your skin and the struggle that burn victims go through to feel comfortable in their new skin. Runners are encouraged to costume up as appropriate for the *nearly* naked theme and prizes will be awarded. After the run, Clyde's in Reston Town Center will be hosting the post-run party.
