Yesterday nine (9) firefighters traveled to the annual Muscular Dystrophy Summer Camp in Leonardtown, MD to spend the day with some of the 45 children at the weeklong camp. In conjunction with the City of Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department we took one of the reserve fire engines down and participated in ty-dying shirts, swimming, and education about fire safety and sharing with the kids what our jobs entail.
The kids loved it but the firefighters enjoyed the day even more just spending time with the kids laughing and telling stories. This camp is funded directly from the collections firefighters collect during the annual "Fill the Boot" campaign conducted every Labor Day weekend here in the City and around the country. So when people ask what the money is used for it is for this camp and research for a cure for muscular.
